Coles Online Shopping Review

The large Australian grocery chain Coles is conducting a new online shopping review program which allows customers to shop online and then pick up their groceries at local petrol stations. This scheme has the potential to change the way Australians shop for food, and may fast-track their embrace of online grocery shopping.

It will also provide more competition for Woolworths, which is planning to offer similar services. The program, currently under review at a small number of petrol stations, will be expanded to the full network of Coles petrol stations following evaluation of its success. Coles' online sales have already doubled from fiscal year 2009 to 2010, and the company is positioning itself on the cutting edge as this technology has yet to become commonplace in the grocery business. To date, consumers have turned to online shopping for products traditionally sold at department stores.
